Book Recommendations

I got the most fascinating book from the library tonight. I've skimmed it and am now settling down to really get into it. It is Traditional Knitting by Michael Pearson. It's out of print now I think and it looks like used copies online are pretty spendy. I am fortunate to have stumbled on it at the library. Pearson traveled all around the remote fishing villages of Eastern Scotland, and Northern England to document traditional knitting patterns. The book is full of wonderful history and photos of gansey and Fair Isle patterns. If you are intereted in ganseys (my new pet interest) this is a definite read. Not sure how reliable it would be in the way of the patterns but the history is amazing!


In the fiction realm, I am almost finished with Spin by Robert Charles Wilson. I'm not a SciFi fan per se, but this is a GREAT book. It's futuristic earth so there are no funky aliens from weird planets in imaginary galaxies or fairies riding unicorns or anything. I have just sucked this book down. I highly recommend checking Amazon to at least read the blurb about it. Really good!

Next up is a book called 'I, Mona Lisa'. Sounds facinating!

Hmmm... I might have to put a hold request on that Traditional Knitting book.... Don't worry -- I'll wait a few weeks so that if you want to renew it, you'll be able to :-)

Just got a comment on my last blog entry reminding me that Monday is actually the last day of November, not today. So I have TWO more entries to complete NaBloPoMo; today and TOMORROW. How sad would that have been...to blow the whole thing because I can't read a calendar? I just figured, hey, December is coming next week, might's well start it out first thing on Monday! Lots of New Tangle Pattern Ideas!

I've been setting aside tangles that I've created in a special file in my cabinet. When I put one in last night, I realized that I had quite a stockpile and that I hadn't put only of them out there for others to try...so here they all are. I'm not good at stepouts or at naming. Most of them are named after placed in Maine...just because. I'd love to see any tangles that you've done that use any of these patterns! Have fun and tangle on!

Wicked Wonderful Weekend

 I had a really nice weekend. I didn't expect to since I had both my Covid booster and my flu shot  on Thursday afternoon. My first of the original two Covid shots put me under the weather for about 24 hours...but I just got a headache from this one and that's about it. And since I get headaches anyway, who knows if it was from the shots or not? At any rate, I was prepared for a stay-at-home-lay-about weekend.  Life is what happens when you are making other plans.  Since I decided Friday Night that I guess I wasn't going to be incapacitated after all, I arranged to go with friend, Donna to Baraboo to the Arts and Crafts Festival. It was really nice and way bigger than I thought it would be. Baraboo is where Ringling Brothers started so there were also circus-y things all over town. So much fun! After the Fair we went to lunch at a little breakfast place and then headed to one of my fav spots, Pewett's Nest, to see the gorge and waterfall. Then we stopped at Sky Hi Ap...
