Olbrich Christmas

In my desperate bid to locate my Christmas Spirit, I went to Olbrich Gardens with friends on Saturday before the big blizzard hit. They have a special train and poinsettia room this time of year.

Lots of poinsettias, amaryllis and trees. There is a train track that runs around the whole room through the foliage.

Cool birdhouses. This one was my favorite with a deer antler perch.

The cardinals are origami! There were origami blue jays and other winter birds tucked everywhere.



There were also some lovely gingerbread houses


I couldn't decide if this birdhouse was a lighthouse or a salt shaker, but either way, I liked it!
After getting a good dose of Christmas, we went into the tropical conservatory where we saw real birds, and basked in the moist tropical heat.

Quite a welcome contrast from the blizzard that was to strike a couple of hours later!

Don, Claire, and I were at Olbrich on Friday afternoon. I love walking through the lower section of the conservatory (it's a little cooler down there). It is a perfect place to be when it is cold/snowy outside.

I always love the little quail scurrying around in the conservatory. Fun pictures. I'm especially taken by the origami cardinals.

Just got a comment on my last blog entry reminding me that Monday is actually the last day of November, not today. So I have TWO more entries to complete NaBloPoMo; today and TOMORROW. How sad would that have been...to blow the whole thing because I can't read a calendar? I just figured, hey, December is coming next week, might's well start it out first thing on Monday! Lots of New Tangle Pattern Ideas!

I've been setting aside tangles that I've created in a special file in my cabinet. When I put one in last night, I realized that I had quite a stockpile and that I hadn't put only of them out there for others to try...so here they all are. I'm not good at stepouts or at naming. Most of them are named after placed in Maine...just because. I'd love to see any tangles that you've done that use any of these patterns! Have fun and tangle on!

Wicked Wonderful Weekend

 I had a really nice weekend. I didn't expect to since I had both my Covid booster and my flu shot  on Thursday afternoon. My first of the original two Covid shots put me under the weather for about 24 hours...but I just got a headache from this one and that's about it. And since I get headaches anyway, who knows if it was from the shots or not? At any rate, I was prepared for a stay-at-home-lay-about weekend.  Life is what happens when you are making other plans.  Since I decided Friday Night that I guess I wasn't going to be incapacitated after all, I arranged to go with friend, Donna to Baraboo to the Arts and Crafts Festival. It was really nice and way bigger than I thought it would be. Baraboo is where Ringling Brothers started so there were also circus-y things all over town. So much fun! After the Fair we went to lunch at a little breakfast place and then headed to one of my fav spots, Pewett's Nest, to see the gorge and waterfall. Then we stopped at Sky Hi Apple
